Protect Yourself With Spam Filter Services

Not long after computers had been joined together in a network, spam was introduced.

If computers could be linked to provide quick communication between remote points they could also be used to provide an instantaneous delivery of advertising or other unwanted material. And coincidentally, the first spam email delivered in 1978 was by a computer manufacturer, DEC.

Since that time spam has continued to proliferate and the technology required to deliver it has kept up with the computer industry and in some cases surpassed it.

To protect the time and sanity of computer users, spam filter services have been introduced and are now available to everyone.

We all want our mail to be only the things of interest to us and to be void of things that could harm our computer.

Anti-spam services have become available through IP services and through independent contractors or filter services.

The spam filter services come in three general categories; hosted spam filters, off site spam filters, and mx re-direct spam filters.

All of these work in nearly the same way. Incoming e mail is blocked and routed through the filters.

The filters cleanse the e mail acting as both an anti spam and virus protection firewall at the same time.

Unwanted mass junk mail and virus containing material is removed and stopped before it ever gets to the user's computer.

Spam filter services operate remotely. In order for the incoming e mail to be screened and cleansed the computer owner has to change their mx records so that all of their e mail is directed to the spam filter services' data center.

How Email Spam Filters Work Based On Algorithms

This can be accomplished whether the user uses a customer mail server such as GroupWise, Exchange, Lotus Notes or a hosted mail provider.

The service knows which mail is legitimate, filters out the bad stuff and forwards the rest. The user is not bothered with Spam and their e mail archiving remains uncluttered.

When you use spam filter services you no longer have to spend valuable time reviewing message headers and deleting the spam.

Your worries about viruses are alleviated. The services claim that 90 to 95 per cent of all spam is filtered out and never gets to your site.
